Off to Tour! / Cottage Session #4

The cooler's packed, the guitar & PA are in the truck, and I'm ready to hit the road. I’ll be hitting the road for ten days and will be coming through Tennessee, Georgia, and the Carolinas.

Unfortunately, yesterday's farewell Concert By the Pool didn't come off due to weather & mud concerns. We're looking at rescheduling and we'll keep you posted.

In a few minutes I'm hitting the road for Knoxville, TN to play a  House Concert at The Arbor Studio. Arbor owner John Baker has a great evening planned featuring the Tim Lee 3 (or maybe Tim’s other project, Bark), yours truly, and some other Knoxville folks (TBA). We’ll get started at about 7 and go until 9 or so.

On Monday, July 13th I hope to play the legendary open mic night at Nashville’s Bluebird Cafe. Lots of stars have been discovered on Bluebird open mic nights over the years. I don’t have those aspirations or expectations, but I want to say that I’ve played there. On Tuesday, July 14th I hope to play Douglas Corner Cafe’s open mic night. Douglas Corner’s open mic is another Nashville institution.

While in Nashville I plan to do some recording at Strangebird Recording. Strangebird’s Travis Atkinson has an excellent collection of AEA mics and other fantastic gear that I look forward to singing through.

On Friday, July 17th I’ll be hitting Chapel Hill for a show at Caffe Driade. Caffe Driade has a beautiful woodsy outdoor stage, which should be perfect for a July Friday night. I'll start at 8 pm and I'll go to 11, with a couple of breaks in between sets. C’mon down and grab a delicious caffeinated beverage, a tasty baked treat, and listen to some original Virginia folk-rock.

After that I’ll be heading south down to Athens, GA, where I hope to play the Monday, July 20th open mic at Hendershots Coffee. I love Athens and whenever I’m there I spend a couple hours in Hendershots relaxing and writing. After Athens I’ll be heading home to Virginia.

We’ve got a few beyond-July dates booked:

Thursday, August 13th - The Light Well, Orange, VA - 7 to 9 pm. I’ll be opening for Jonathan Foster. Jonathan is a very talented roots music (Folk, Blues, Country) artist from Northern California. I’m looking forward to playing with him.

Saturday, September 19th - Tim’s at Lake Anna, Mineral, VA - 7 to 10 pm

Friday, October 16th - The Light Well, Orange, VA - 8:30 to 10:30 pm.

Last week I recorded and posted Cottage Session episode #4. In the Cottage Session series I perform, in my living room (in my cottage in the woods), a three song solo-acoustic set. This installment features “Promise Me” (from Opera Alley), “Best Man” (from Roses for Sharon), and “(You Can’t) Sleep With Me” (from Smile Slightly).

I’m hard at work on a new Saturday’s Radio album. As usual, I’m pretty much playing everything myself. Five songs are nearly done and a few more are written and waiting to be recorded. As mentioned above, I’ll be hitting Strangebird Recording in Nashville to lay down some vocals.
