Orange, VA with Jonathan Foster recap

I really enjoyed last Thursday's Orange, Virginia Light Well show, opening for Jonathan Foster. I already knew he was a talented songwriter and performer, but in meeting him for the first time he proved to be a super nice guy. I'm sure we'll be working together again in some capacity.

My set was short. I played solo-electric for the first time in many years. It was fun, though it was kind of disconcerting hearing the guitar sound coming from behind me rather than from something attached to my body.

Here's the setlist -

  1. Promise Me
  2. When She Flies
  3. Hollywood's Dreams
  4. Last Round
  5. Days Don't Last Forever
  6. Beautiful Soul
  7. Driver 8 (R.E.M. cover)

Incidentally, this was the first time I'd ever played "Driver 8" in front of an audience. Someone wrote recently that unknown singer-songwriters should reward the audience for listening to what is likely unfamiliar material by playing a few songs that they know. I'd read that Elliott Smith won an indifferent crowd over early in his career by performing Big Star's "Thirteen". I'll likely be inserting more covers into my sets in the near future.

Here's a couple of pics from the evening - Rob by Jonathan and Jonathan by Rob;
